1. My cast iron cooking grids appear to be rusty.

Your grids may appear to be rusty if they have not been properly seasoned or maintained. Also, if you have used a harsh brush or utensil, you may have removed the protective porcelain coating. Use a soft brass bristle brush to clean the grids and then re-season.

2. My Grill Burner does not have a high and even flame.

  • Your venturi tubes on your burner may have a blockage, thus not allowing enough gas and air flow to reach the burners. To correct this, you will need to remove the burner to access the venturi tubes. Use a venturi brush by pushing it through the entire tube while turning. Pull out the venturi brush and examine for any debris. BE AWARE, spiders are attracted to the smell of gas, and may have taken residence in your venturi tubes. To prevent this, make sure the spider gaurds are protecting the air intake holes at all times.
  • Your burner port holes may be blocked, thus not allowing and even flame across your burner. To correct this, simply clear the debris out by poking blocked holes with a paper clip (or another tool small enough).

3. My Propane tank runs out of gas after only a couple of uses.

If your Propane tank has been recently filled or purchased, the tank may not have been purged properly or at all.  Purging the tank removes any air, thus releasing space for more gas. The more air in the tank, the less space you will have for gas. Simply take the tank back to where you had it filled or purchased, and have them purge the tank properly.

4. My Grill has low flame and is taking longer then normal to heat up.

  • The hose and regulator on your Grill has a safety feature known as QCC. This feature may have been triggered by turning on the tank to quickly. To correct this, simply turn off the tank and the grill, then VERY slowly, turn the tank back on. This will reset the regulator, and allow normal gas flow.
  • If your BBQ runs on natural gas, the Water Column Pressure may need to be checked by a Certified Gas Fitter.

5. The regulator on my propane barbecue is occasionally humming. What could cause this?

Most propane appliance regulators use a rubber diaphragm to control the amount of fuel allowed to the control valves. If the propane tank has been overfilled, or it is a hot day outside, it is possible for this rubber diaphragm to vibrate. As it vibrates, it creates a humming noise. This noise, although annoying, is perfectly safe, and will go away in time.

6. My barbecue does not get hot enough and will only stay lit for a limited time. What could be causing this?

There could be several causes of this problem.  First check to see that you are not out of LP Gas.  Another cause could be that the excess flow device has been activated.  This could be as a result of  a leak in the system or a burner valve may have been open when the cylinder was opened.  In the case of a leak perform a leak test by brushing soapy water on all connections.  If a burner valve was open at the time of opening the cylinder, turn the valve to the off position close the valve on the LP cylinder, disconnect the regulator from the tank.  Reconnect the regulator to the tank slowly open the valve on the tank and then turn a main burner valve to the lighting position.

7. I have white spots on the outside of my Grill castings.

This is a buildup of oxidization, grease and fumes. To correct this, clean BBQ casting with a mild soapy solution, then wipe with cooking oil. This will restore the lustre. Expect the unit to smoke the first couple of times of use.

8. My grill ignitor won't light the BBQ, but the BBQ will light manually.

The Sure-Lite™ starting system is a two part system consisting of either a push button or rotary ignition, plus the electrode. The electrode may develop a build up of grease or oxidization that may hamper the performance of the spark. Most times this can be rectified by cleaning the electrode with a brush or carefully with a piece of sandpaper. The electrodes can be found connected to your burner. You will need to remove your grills and heat medium to access the electrode. If you do not hear the ignitor clicking, and cleaning the electrode does not resolve the problem, you may need to replace it or the batteries (if your Barbecue came with electric battery start). Always ensure the electrode wire is plugged into the ignitor and securely attached to your burner. This wire can be found underneathe the control panel.
